HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Well, I've have been listen to hip hop forever. Writing has always been a passion of mine, if I wasn't doing music I would be doing journalism. So with a love of hip hop and a love of lyrics and writing, it was just natural that in time I would chose to do music as a carrer. My whole life I all ways had a passion for it, so it wasn't a surprise that I was going do it. But the way that it's coming out now is definitely a surprise. I mean, we weren't expecting the kind of publicity and the kind of buzz that this project is generating, it's really exciting though, I'm very very happy about it.
HOW'D YOU GET THE NAME LUCY DIAMONDS? IS THAT A NAME YOU CAME UP WITH OR DID SOMEONE COIN YOU THAT NAME?
It's kind of a nickname that stuck with me for a while cause I'm a big fan of the Beatles.
TELL ME ABOUT THE ALBUM YOUR WORKING ON?
The album is called "Poor Dream Redemption" and I very very excited about working on this because the album is produced by Scott Micheals who's a newcomer but his definitely going to be the next hot thing in hip hop, I'm tellin' you mark my words, his going to be the next Kanye, the next Scott Storch, the next Timberland, his coming up. I got the chance to work with Easy Mo' Bee, he a legend, so it totally an honor. I also working with DJ Head who is Ememim's producer...he was also the battle dee jay in the movie 8 Miles, his a great dude too... it's a lot of fun. Let's see I'm also doing Uhmm....
(while in mid sentence Lucy hear herself talking as she's walking around absorbing the atmospere and energy of New York City.)
...I have so much going on right now! I'm so sorry...
(I dertermine that it's not A.D.D. that's she's suffering from but geniune exicitement from a sudden realization that's she actually heading toward big things. Possibly becoming one of the hottest female rappers on the music scene.)
I'm walking around in New York, I have never been to the city, other than just a few days now. It's crazy!
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I from Houston.
HOW DID THIS PROJECT COME TOGETHER, I MEAN YOUR MENTIONING SOME BIG NAME AND SEEM LIKE BIG THINGS ARE ABOUT TO HAPPENING?
Oh! It's just God. I mean, honestly that's all I can say, I don't know, I'm just lead to whereever I'm lead to and everythings just (falling into place), you know. I'm always taking steps forward, never taking steps back.
WHEN THE ALBUM SCHEDULED TO DROP?
We're looking at releaseing it in November. The single is called "Star Write Number" , there's two of them, there's "Star Write Number Part 1" and "Star Write number 2"
WHAT FEMALE EMCEES ARE
YOU INFLUENCED BY ?
I like MC Lyte, I lot her alot. I love Missy Elliot, Oh, My God! She has... there's nobody who has a style like that, I love Missy Elliot. Not too many female emcees... just emcees in general, I'm a huge Outkast fan. I love Jay-Z, Tupac, and Biggie, Emeniem.
YOU BEING AND FEMALE EMCEE AND BEING WHITE, DOES IT PLAY IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND HOW FANS ARE GOING TO REACT TO YOU. EVEN BEFORE YOU COME OUTPEOPLE ARE GOING TO FORM AN OPINION.....CONSIDERING THAT IN HIP HOP WHITE AND FEMALE ARE, LIKE, A DOUBLE NEGATIVE? THINKING ABOUT WHAT EMENIEM HAD TO GO THROUGH TO PROVE HIMSELF, DO YOU FEEL, FOR YOU, IT'S GOING TO BE A LITTLE TOUGHER?
Yeah, Well I mean, I already encountered it. From day one I knew it was a uphill battle but... you know ....I really I don't think its going to be that big of an issue because I'm not tryin' to be anything that I'm not. I not tryin' to be a hardcore rapper or just... I love lyrics, so I think I'm a very good lyricist. I'm really focused on... how can I say it....steppin' out of the ordinary of a lot of the hip hop that's out right now, because a lot of it to me, personally... it all kinda sounds the same. So I'm definitely striving not only to look different but to sound different. A lot of people say I have a very unique sounding voice, nobody one in the industry has a voice that sounds like mine, nobody has a style like mine. During the show I have a live band that plays with me, so its not just like throw on some tracks and do the songs. So it's a whole experience when you come see the live show.
NOW THAT I KNOW YOUR FROM HOUSTON, THAT ADDS ANOTHER ELEMENT TO IT. AND I'M WONDERING, IS YOUR MUSIC COMING FROM A HOUSTON OR DIRTY SOUTH STANDPOINT?
I like to represent all coast. I grew up in Houston but I lived like the last 5 years in Louieville and then with the music I've been travelling around Tampa and the Florida area and out of New York. So my grounds are....I'm's really torn between Houston and Louieville. It's really hard to pick one for me.
ARE YOU PLANNING A PROMOTIONAL TOUR?
Oh definitely, were definitely planning a tour.
AND WORKING WITH AMIL?
By working with Easy Mo' Bee I also got the chance to have Amil (formerly of Rocafella) featured on a track. And that's really exciting for me, because I don't have any other features on the album as of yet. But it was great (working with her), it was really cool.
