This batttle sparked during a 50 cent interview on Hot 97 FM in New York when Cam'ron called in to confront 50 cent about a comment he made about the record label who distributes Cam'ron and other Dipset members music.

What's crazy about this battle was it began with a line Canibus said while guest performing on one of LL Cool J's records. The record was "4,3,2,1" where Canibus says "Yo! LL, Let me get that mic on your arm". Canibus says he meant it as a compliment but L took it as an insult, interpreting the line as "Yo! Give your mic up to me cause I'm a better emcee." L retaliated by re-doing his verse but instead of mentioning Canibus name, L used specific references in the verse so it would be clear to Canibus who he was talking to. When the record was released people were'nt aware that L was attacking Canibus. But when rumors started to spread about Canibus getting served by L in the record, Canibus felt pressured to respond.

Before the battle really got ignited the two emcees had a phone conversation in an attempt to avoid the war of words.
